Russell
Sands
"I have nothing but respect and
admiration for Russell Sands."
~ Larry Williams, veteran trader and teacher
Russell Sands is a veteran futures and foreign
currency trader who has been trading the markets for
over 25 years. He learned how to trade in 1984 from
legendary trader, Richard Dennis.
Richard was born into a working class family. He
grew up to become the best futures trader in the
world. He
turned a small $400 family loan into $200
million dollars. Richard believed that trading could
be taught so he decided to prove it to himself and
to his colleagues. He recruited 14 people - some who
had no trading experience
at all.
Past results are not
indicative of futures results. Trading in Forex
involves substantial risk of loss, and thus is not
appropriate for everyone.
"I'll grow traders just like they grow turtles in
Singapore,” he said. Thus the name - Turtle Traders.
Richard placed a ‘help wanted’ ad in the Wall Street
Journal, Barron’s and The New York Times. Nearly
3,000 respondents were narrowed down to 80
interviewees, and ultimately 14 people from various
walks of life including an actor, security guard,
and a kid just out of high school.
Russell Sands was one of the fortunate 14 who were
selected.
Russell trained with Richard Dennis from 1983 to
1984, and during that time, the Turtles were taught
basic trend following, specific channel-breakout
rules, and proven money-management strategies.
Russell learned to trade the markets.
Today he is currently one of two original
Turtle Traders who has permission to teach Richard
Dennis' original Turtle Trading strategies.
Russell holds an MBA from NYU. He is also a 1st degree
black belt and has won the coveted World Amateur
Backgammon Championship Plimpton Cup. Russell has
also been barred from many Las Vegas and
international casinos for his successful Black Jack
strategies!
Russell currently makes a living trading his own
money, trading futures and Forex markets for other
investors, and conducting
educational trading seminars.
He operates a Registered Commodity Trading Advisor, and
is an approved National Futures Association Associate Member.
